West Berkshire Council approves funding to local businesses through the Welcome Back Business Grant
Our Economic Development Team have just signed off agreements to fund 26 local businesses with a total of £112,852 through the Welcome Back Business Grant scheme.
Issued on: 19 July 2021.
The funding will support temporary changes, events and innovative measures that will allow these businesses to drive footfall to our streets as West Berkshire re-opens fully this summer.
We had a huge variety of proposals, including Little Yum Factory's new presence at Newbury Market, a series of workshops across Hungerford, a new seating area at Crepe O'Clock, and a re-opening event for two businesses on Thatcham Broadway.
We are really excited to see all 26 proposals take shape over the next few months and to see the impact they have locally. Our Council Members will be going along to as many of the events and open days as possible, and are hoping to see a great turnout from everyone who wants to get back to normal and support local businesses.
Cllr Ross Mackinnon, Executive Member for Finance and Economic Development at West Berkshire Council, said:
"We're thrilled to be on track to re-open fully from Monday 19 July, and we wanted to offer some support to businesses that have had a tough year.
"The creative proposals that we have seen via the applications for the Welcome Back Business Grant will give a real boost to the vitality and economy of our district, driving footfall to our high streets as we welcome a much needed re-opening."
You can read more about the Welcome Back Business Grant on our webpage, where we will soon be posting a programme of the successful proposals.
