Curridge Primary School in Thatcham has received almost £5,000 from the Ministry of Defence Education Support Fund.

The funding will be used for an exciting project for all children at the school but with a particular focus on children from military families.

It will pay for a three year membership to the Children's University, a charity that works in partnership with schools to develop a love of learning by encouraging and celebrating participation in extra-curricular activities in and outside of school.

Accredited clubs and activities will be offered through the Children's University, the children will build a record of achievement of their extra-curricular activities and work towards Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and, ultimately, graduate.

Jackie Livermore, Headteacher, Curridge Primary School said,

"We're absolutely thrilled to be starting our Children's University.

"Evidence shows that recognising the learning that happens outside the classroom has a beneficial impact on children's wellbeing, boosts their aspirations as well as raising academic attainment."

Dominic Boeck, West Berkshire's Executive Member for Education, Children and Young People said, "This is a wonderful project that brings a multitude of benefits.

"Not only will the children broaden their essential skills, they will enjoy new experiences in new places and see that learning is fun and lifelong."
