West Berkshire businesses receive funding via the Additional Restrictions Grant Challenge Fund
Our Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Challenge Fund has come to a close and we are thrilled to announce that we have been able to distribute £696,601 to 44 local businesses through the scheme, following a very competitive assessment process.
The successful applicants can now use the funding to implement their projects which include solar panels, air-source heat pumps, e-commerce websites, development of a travel carbon-tracker app, an electric delivery bicycle, and a range of commercial equipment including filming, lighting and printing equipment.
We are looking forward to seeing all 44 projects take shape over the next few months, supporting the successful applicants to recover from the pandemic and stimulate local economic growth. Many have committed to using local suppliers which will mean the funding continues to circulate in West Berkshire.
The ARG Challenge Fund is unique to West Berkshire, but it is part of the wider Government Additional Restrictions Grant scheme, which includes the hardship support that we have been offering to support businesses impacted by the pandemic.
Cllr Ross Mackinnon, Executive Member for Finance and Economic Development at West Berkshire Council, said:
"We want to thank all of the 130 businesses that applied for this scheme as the quality of every proposal was fantastic and it was difficult to shortlist those businesses down to the 44 projects we awarded the funding to.
"Taking this unique approach with the funding made available to the Council allows us to support some truly innovative projects to aid green recovery and growth, Helping local businesses recover from a hard few years gives a real boost to the local economy."
