Support for carers

Carers are people who look after a family member or friend who, because of disability, illness or age, cannot manage at home without help. Carers may live with the person they care for, or they may live far away. Anyone can become a carer, at almost any age.

Many people do not think of themselves as a carer. But recognising that you are a carer can help to acknowledge that you are doing a job, one that can be difficult and demanding. You should never feel guilty about asking for the support you deserve and need because you have accepted the role of a carer.
