Our Environment Strategy Delivery Plan

Our Delivery Plan guides the delivery of our published Environment Strategy 2020-2030.

Our Delivery Plan lays out a framework of actions that will set us on the path to net zero for the Council by 2030 and to play our part in working towards net zero for the district as soon as practicable. We are working hard to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies declared by this Council in July 2019 and October 2023 respectively. Making progress takes bold action on carbon reduction projects and actions focused on improving and enhancing our natural environment.

Working with partners and across communities we will continue to strive to deliver the actions and tasks in the Icon for excel Environment Strategy Delivery Plan [156KB]

Delivery plan themes

The Delivery Plan is organised around the themes in the Environment Strategy:

Environment Strategy Themes 2025: energy efficiency and renewables, sustainable transport, natural environment and waste reduction and recycling.
The icons representing each theme for the Environment Strategy and Environment Delivery Plan.

  • energy efficiency and renewables

  • sustainable transport

  • natural environment

  • waste reduction and recycling

Important common threads have been recognised that cut across the four themes. These are:

  • net zero
  • health and wellbeing
  • communications
  • partnerships
  • education and engagement

The common threads represent areas that each of the four themes will contribute to (such as achieving net zero and helping to improve health and wellbeing) and the ways in which we work.  For example, communicating well is important for everyone to engage in opportunities to take action (that is why we have an environment newsletter as one channel of communication).

Working in partnership is key to all we do - together much more is achieved and everyone feels supported.

Education and engagement is important so that we can keep people of all ages up to date with the ever developing opportunities to address the climate and ecological emergencies and so that we can listen to local priorities and learn from new ideas and innovative projects emerging in our communities. We host a Town and Parish Climate Forum regularly throughout the year to help with this approach and ensure we are engaging with each other. All are welcome to participate in this forum.

The Environment Delivery Plan will remain 'live' and be updated and published each quarter.

We have provided instructions at the beginning of the Excel spreadsheet which explain how to navigate the document effectively.

A number of our actions within the Delivery Plan contribute to delivering the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. This set of ambitious international goals outline criteria for reaching a sustainable future. Our Delivery Plan helps to achieve these, for example by demonstrating our commitment to renewable energy, supporting community climate action, and protecting our natural environment.

The Delivery Plan was approved by the Executive alongside the Environment Strategy Refresh on 22 May 2025.
