Step into serenity-Tudor and Peace Garden's officially open
Celebrate two new peaceful havens in Newbury on Sunday 6 July

West Berkshire Council is delighted to invite everyone to special celebrations on Sunday 6 July, marking the grand opening of two beautiful new green spaces in the heart of Newbury: The Tudor Garden at Shaw House and the completion of Phase 1 of the Peace Garden at The Wharf.
At 11am, the Tudor Garden- a thoughtfully designed and historically inspired space, will be officially opened. Created by horticulturist Andrea Fearon, with volunteer support and delivered by West Berkshire Council's Community Services team, the garden offers a contemporary slant on Tudor-era planting.
Visitors can enjoy the garden as it comes into bloom, meet the volunteers behind the project, and explore the historic Shaw House and exhibitions, entry is free of charge.
At 1pm, celebrations continue at The Wharf, opposite Newbury Library, with the opening of Phase 1 of the Peace Garden-a key part of the Newbury Town Centre Masterplan.
This new space blends nature, accessibility, and community connection. Designed by award-winning architectural and landscape consultancy Adams & Sutherland and delivered by Volker Highways. It represents a significant step forward in transforming The Wharf into a biodiverse, inclusive and welcoming part of the town centre.
Councillor Nigel Foot, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure, Sport and Countryside, said,
"Both the Tudor Garden and Peace Garden are wonderful examples of how imagination, collaboration and community spirit can come together to transform public spaces. These projects not only honour our heritage but also create calming places where people can gather, relax and connect."
"The opening of the Peace Garden marks a proud and transformative moment for Newbury. It's a vital part of our vision to reimagine the town centre as a place where people can connect, not just with each other, but with nature and the environment around them. This welcoming space is a tribute to thoughtful design and strong partnerships and I'm excited to see it flourish."
Visitors can also treat themselves to refreshments in the Shaw House café and buy drinks, snacks, and ice cream at the West Berkshire Museum, just steps from the Peace Garden at The Wharf.
The Tudor Garden project was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Peace Garden by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership.
