Our district is predominantly rural, with a significant portion of our residents residing in the countryside. We recognize the unique challenges and opportunities that come with living in such areas, and our aim is to create a platform where these concerns can be openly discussed and were we can explore the possible solutions.

The forum will be held on 5 December 2023 at Club Room, Chieveley Village Hall, 6.00-8.00pm. As with the last forum, this community forum will operate in a hybrid manner, with attendees able to attend in person or online via zoom.

Our rural communities play a vital role in shaping the character of our district. We understand that issues such as security, public transport, and housing significantly impact your quality of life. With this in mind, our forum will focus on crucial aspects like:

  • Working with the Community: We believe in the power of collaboration and enabling the community to support their needs. We will discuss how fostering strong community relationships can lead to effective solutions and a better quality of life for everyone. This forum is not just about listening, but it's a platform for you to actively participate in suggesting how the community can work together to deliver solutions.
  • Rural Housing: Finding affordable and suitable housing in rural areas can be challenging. We will explore strategies to improve housing options and make them more accessible for our residents.
  • Transport: Public transport is a lifeline for many in our rural communities. We'll address existing challenges and work towards enhancing transportation options for easier connectivity.
  • Insights from the Rural Business Forum: Rural businesses are the backbone of our local economy. We will share valuable feedback gathered from the Rural Business Forum and discuss how their insights can shape our strategies.

Chairing the forum will be Cllr Tony Vickers, Portfolio Holder for Planning & Community Engagement, with Cllr Denise Gaines, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Housing, and Sustainable Travel and Cllr Martin Colston, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Growth, and Strategy Development, sitting on the panel to discuss topics and answer any questions you may have.

We would appreciate it, if you could indicate whether you will be attending, and whether in person or virtually by emailing Executivecycle@westberks.gov.uk, this way we can keep an eye on numbers and contact those wishing to attend if needed. This forum is an opportunity for your voice to be heard. Your feedback and ideas are invaluable in guiding our initiatives. Together, we can create a thriving rural community where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
