Highway schemes

Each year, the council's Highway Projects Team designs and delivers highway schemes. These can range from small footway or junction improvements to larger multimillion pound highway construction projects.

Other improvements can include the following:

• Active Travel which looks to enhance facilities to cycling and walking routes throughout the district
• footway and road upgrades
• pedestrian/cycle crossing facilities
• public realm improvements
• schemes that meet wider council priorities

Schemes can take different amounts of time to develop: some may take several years to progress from feasibility into design and construction. There may be some schemes, regardless of size and scale, that can take longer to progress due to the legal or regulatory processes required.
