Most benefits are paid by central Government (often the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or HMRC) but the local authority also pays some benefits. Below we've listed where to go for information.
The GOV.UK website has useful information about benefits, including eligibility, applying, and who to contact if you need help. You can also find benefits calculators on GOV.UK.
The government
The Government manage most benefits and you will need apply on the GOV.UK website for benefits like:
- Universal Credit (UC)
- Jobseekers Allowance
- Employment Support Allowance
- disability benefits
- carers benefits
Local Authority (West Berkshire Council)
As a local authority, West Berkshire Council manage:
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Reduction
- Council Tax discounts (and exemptions)
- Household Support Fund
- Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP)
