Resources and apps for children, young people and adults, to help you learn about and practice road safety.
Making decisions about how to travel are an essential life skill. At an early age children need to learn to recognise the hazards of the road.
As they get older, they should be prepared for their independence as road users. This includes accepting responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others, and considering the environmental impact of their travel decisions.
Route Guard app
Route Guard is an app that uses geolocation technology to give reassurance to parents/guardians and security to children on unaccompanied journeys.
The app is available to download from Apple and Android app stores.
As a Route Guardian, parents will be able to plan, monitor and adjust routes and pre-defined zones.
To use Route Guard, parents and guardians will need to use a code which will only be issued by a registered school or local authority. This is to ensure that the app is only being used by legitimate guardians.
It is free for all schools to sign up, which can be done via the Route Guard website. Please ask your child's school for details on accessing Route Guard.
Get Your Coat (GYC) travel planning app
Get Your Coat (GYC) is an app designed to provide intelligent travel planning for nights out.
Using the app, you can:
- set a designated driver who you can contact from within the app
- set your preferred taxi firm or search for other local taxi companies or alternative transport
- set reminders for your train or bus
- let family and friends know you've arrived at your destination with the touch of a button
You can download the GYC app for free from Apple and Android stores.

Road safety with GoDrive (for schools and facilitators)
West Berkshire Council is proud to introduce GoDrive, a cutting-edge road safety intervention designed for pre-learners, learners, and newly qualified drivers. Developed using behavioural science and a trauma-informed approach, GoDrive empowers young drivers to take control of their safety on the road - moving away from fear-based tactics and focusing on long-lasting positive behaviour change.

GoDrive provides an impactful experience that fits easily into a one-hour session, creating open discussions and peer collaboration. Facilitators guide participants through interactive activities that challenge perceptions, build awareness, and promote a deeper understanding of road safety.
