'Safe places' are places you can go if you feel worried, scared, or at risk. These are registered venues that can offer you support, whether it's a quiet area or help to call a friend, a taxi or even 999.
In West Berkshire, our libraries, leisure centres and family hubs are safe places. When you're out, you can look for the safe places sticker in the window.
The safe places app is free. It can direct you to the nearest open safe place. If there is not a safe place within a 15 minute walk, it will offer to call the Police non-emergency number (101).
The Safe Places scheme is managed by West Berkshire Council in partnership with Thames Valley Police and Newbury BID.
Reporting public safety issues:
You can report public safety issues such as badly lit streets, vandalism and verbal abuse anonymously to Thames Valley Police StreetSafe.
If you have a venue in West Berkshire that you'd like to register as a safe place, first read the terms and conditions and criteria below.
Then, email safeplaces@westberks.gov.uk or call 01635 551111 and ask for Rhys Lewis to discuss getting registered. We will then come and visit your Safe Place and help you complete the registration form.
Once you are on the system we will send you a Safe Place sticker to put in your window.
