Connected Kerb was established in 2017; they were awarded the London Civic Innovation Award in 2018 for their Electric Vehicle Charger Design and have been growing ever since. They currently have 120 employees and prioritise delivering 60% of public charging to those unable to charge at home. They have been working with, and successfully installing charge points, for Lambeth Borough Council where they have also undertaken the UK's first public smart charging trial.

This roll-out of chargers is financially supported by the Government LEVI Funding and Connected Kerb and there will be no cost to the residents of West Berkshire. Connected Kerb was chosen as the supplier through a competitive tender process.

Connected Kerb will be involved with installing new electric vehicle chargers on-street and off-street. There will be over 600 more sockets installed across West Berkshire over the next four years.

As chargers are installed, this page will be updated accordingly with information of each charging location and the details on each charger, including the number of sockets available. Install locations will be chosen by West Berkshire Council in collaboration with Connect Kerb to determine the ideal sites (roads with high levels of on-street charging, areas where there is limited off-street charging, and where local residents are requesting EV charging).

Commonly asked questions and answers

We will update the page regularly as we progress with Connect Kerb.

Will local residents be informed on the installation of new electric vehicle chargers?

Yes, a letter will be sent out to the locally-affected residents for all new EVC's when being installed. These letters will detail the works being conducted and planned dates for the installs.

Will these on-street chargers take too long to charge my vehicle?

On-street chargers will all provide a 7kW charger per socket; these are designed for overnight charging.

Why are there so many chargers being installed now when there isn't as many electric vehicles on the road?

The council is working to support the future by installing EVC's in preparation for the government's mandate for all vehicles being sold to be electric by 2035.

Will these chargers take away my parking space?

Each install location is carefully identified and chosen; we look to support EVC infrastructure and work with the local residents to do this.

EV's are too expensive to buy.

Yes, it's true that electric vehicles cost more to buy outright, but they sure are cheaper in the long run. Today, an EV can save around £92 per 1,000 miles driven.

Will these chargers bring in more cars and traffic in my area?

On-street chargers charge at slower rate and are meant to be used for overnight charging - more suitable for local residents.

Why are public charge points always down when I need to use them?

Connected Kerb's uptime sits at 99.1% and across the country for all suppliers it is above 90%.

Why are there so many apps when needing to charge my vehicle?
