Help shape Thatcham's proposed new Community Hub
Residents are being invited to help share their views on a new Community Hub in Thatcham - a space shaped by local people, for local people
Following feedback from the 2023 Thatcham Town Centre Strategy, West Berkshire Council and Thatcham Town Council are exploring plans for an improved Community Hub at Brownsfield Road, Thatcham.
We now have an opportunity for residents to help shape how this important local facility could be used and developed. This feasibility study, led by Adams and Sutherland Architects and Augarde & Partners, is being funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to support communities and places.
To make it as easy as possible to get involved, we are inviting residents to informal community drop-in sessions at Thatcham Library, where you can view early plans, explore ideas, ask questions and share your views. No need to book, just turn up on these dates:
- Tuesday 24 February, 5:30pm - 7:00pm
- Saturday 28 February, 12:30pm - 2:00pm
At these sessions, early visual boards will be available to spark ideas around cultural, parkland and sports opportunities, but no decisions have been made at this stage as this is your chance to help shape the future vision.
Residents who cannot attend a session can also share their views online by visiting our website: https://www.westberks.gov.uk/thatchams-new-community-hub which will detail the same information as shown at the drop-in sessions.
Residents can also provide their feedback via email: economicdevelopment@westberks.gov.uk or write to us: Economic Development Team, Council Offices, Market Street, Newbury, RG14 5LD, by Tuesday 10 March 2026.
This is your chance to tell us what matters most - from how the sports pavilion should be used to the activities and facilities that will benefit the town. The project can only move forward with community input so please get involved and let us know your thoughts.
Councillor Justin Pemberton, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at West Berkshire Council and Councillor for Thatcham Town Council, said:
"This is about creating something special for Thatcham - a Community Hub shaped by the people who will use it now and in the future.
"We want residents to tell us what would work, what's missing and what the town really needs, from sport and wellbeing to culture, events and wider community use.
"This is a genuine opportunity to influence what happens next, and we can only achieve this with your ideas. By getting involved, you can help shape a space that brings people together, meets the needs of future generations and is something the whole town can be proud of, so let's create our Thatcham Community Hub together."
Together, let's create a Community Hub that truly reflects Thatcham.
